Biography/Details

Biography/Details:

Dr. Angela D’Amour is dean of student engagement at Westmont where she has served for the past 18 years. As dean, Angela manages professional staff in the Campus Life and Intercultural Programs offices, she oversees First Year Programs, Student Organizations and Leadership Development, as well as leading Student Life Division assessment efforts. Before that, she spent three years working at Dartmouth College as a community director and assistant dean of first year students. She meets regularly with students and enjoys helping them understand and develop their strengths and talents for the glory of God. Angela earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of California Santa Barbara, a M.Ed. in Higher Education and College Student Development from the University of Vermont, and a B.S. in Psychology from Westmont College. Angela grew up in the Boston area and feels at home on both the east and west coasts. She is an avid reader, a fitness nut, and a club soccer coach. She and her husband have a teenage son and daughter and they enjoy backpacking, good movies, and visiting family members around the country.

Hometown: Beverly, MA

Favorite thing about Westmont? Besides the DC food, I appreciate that this is a place where students live out loud seeking creative fun, passionately pursuing their dreams to serve others, and striving for a closer relationship with Christ.

Favorite college memory? There are two. First, traveling to Europe on an academic Mayterm learning program with Dr. Spencer and Dr. Taylor. Second, winning a national championship in Miami with the Westmont women's soccer team.

Favorite book(s) in your library: One of my favorite books is Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion by Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries. Father Boyle has incredible stories of humor, love and mercy and reminds me of our call to extend the boundaries of God's love in every direction.

What is your favorite thing to do away from Westmont? Without a doubt, spending time with my hubby Brian and my two kids, Luke and Maya. There's adventure around every corner.

What is a place that you like to vacation? My family and I love traveling to the Northeast each summer; specifically Massachusetts and New York State where we grew up. As much as possible, we love swimming in lakes, searching the beach for treasures, and visiting family. We also enjoy traveling to the gulf coast of Florida over spring break to spend time with family and search for shark teeth.

Other great info about Angela: I spend my time outside of work coaching soccer, riding bikes with my kids, reading and hiking. A highlight of my year is the day that students arrive on campus in August. Students bring with them passion, potential and inspiring hopes and dreams.
