Student Spotlight Matt Matlock

Matt Matlock ’17, a senior kinesiology major from Murrieta, Calif., transferred to Westmont to continue his baseball career. “I chose Westmont partially because of the Christian aspect, but also because I love the location,” he says. “The coaches and players were very personable on my visit. It was welcoming. It felt like home. The team is like a family.”

In his first season with the Warriors, the outfielder batted .316 with a team-best .561 slugging percentage. “I love baseball,” he says. “It is so much fun to get away from the world. It’s relieving to go out on the field and feel like a kid again.”

Off the field, he enjoys student-organized Bible study groups. “I’ve grown at Westmont looking deeper at different aspects of the Bible,” he says. Once his baseball-playing days end, Matt has lined up a career working for a medical supply company in either San Diego or Hawaii, selling everything from knee braces to surgical tools.
